Good afternoon, Newgrounds! Mobius Legacy Issue 3 is now out on Newgrounds! (Took me forever to publish because I am extremely forgetful)
With ML3 being published, we're now officially out of material to post on Newgrounds for a while! We have several issues cooking right now, with Sonic Legacy up to Issue 19, and Mobius Legacy 4 in the works! We also have the dub version of Issue 5 in the oven, so once the music portion is completed, we should be able to compile it and post it!
Pencils, inks, and color auditions are also still open for the project! Want to be a part of the team, especially once we get to the more original content after this arc? Join our Discord and post an audition!
It's 2024, Happy New Years! For those who work in any sort of field requiring documenting things, enjoy the next month of remembering to write the correct year.
We released Mobius Legacy Issue 3 yesterday on our website, showcasing how Knuckles first met Dr. Eggman when the Death Egg first crashed into the island. You can read it here.
We'll be taking a bit of a hiatus while we develop issues 13 through 18, as a couple of them hit a rough patch in the development process, and we want them to be a great as they can possibly be.
Also throwing out there that we're still always open for new artists to join the team! If you want to contribute to the project either with penciling the issue art, cleaning up the art with inking, or being a colorist, just drop on by our Discord server and submit an audition in the #art-auditions-only channel!
Hiya, Newgrounds! Felt I should share the teaser pages here since we're now starting to upload the full comics in the Art Portal (thanks again to everyone who made the update happen!), so here we go!
For those first discovering Sonic Legacy, it's a long-term webcomic myself and many others are working on to reboot the Sonic franchise and tie in a lot of elements across different facets into one cohesive world, using the games as the primary backbone along with original worldbuilding and lore. Hope you'll stick around to read the issues, or maybe even join the team to help make them!

If you want to audition, just hit up our Discord, read the pinned post in the audition channels, and show us what you've got!
I legitimately keep forgetting that I have the Newgrounds account, and that it would really wise of me to make use of it.
It's been out for almost a month, but just throwing a post saying that Issue 11 of Sonic Legacy is now up on our website! We're also looking for more pencilers/inkers/colorists to round out the team to try and crawl closer to a monthly release schedule (we're currently powering through a bi-monthly release window, but having a few extra team members would allow flexibility for the others to take breaks and work more on personal stuff!)
If you want to audition for the project, just join our Discord server and audition with a couple of comic pages that you've worked on!
2023 has proven to be a turning point for the Legacy team, as we're now in a position where we can crank out content, such as issue releases, Legacy Uncut dubs, Debug Mode strips, and more, in a bi-monthly format! Really excited for today's release, as I helped work on the script alongside Sunshine Nine, and it's a turning point for the comic in tone and direction! Hope you guys enjoy it as much as we did making it.
Also, we're still open to new pencilers, inkers, and colorists joining the team, so if you want to make comics alongside us, drop an audition on our Discord server. Maybe one day, we'll hit a monthly release mark if we get a large enough team!
Man, this one is probably our best release yet. I usually keep myself separated from the music development side, so that when I get to see everything compiled for the first time, I get a completely fresh take on the product, and this one blew me away! Massive credit to the voice actors, musicians, and Kwasior for phenomenal video editing! It makes me really excited to see what the rest of this arc will feel like!
We recently had a couple of pencilers retire from our long-running comic project in order to focus on school and personal projects, and we wanted to raise attention that we've got open availability for new pencilers to join the fray!
Development is still smooth for the issues currently in development (Issues 7-12), while issues 13-16 are being written, and side-issues within universe are 2-4 being written. We've simply hit a point where we're powering through on the writing field, and lacked the penciler power to keep progress transitioning smoothly!
If you were interested in being a penciler for the team, you'd need to audition with two mock-comic pages to show your understanding of panel layout, character and setting dynamics, and artistic style. We'd also prefer people who audition to know how to both draw "Sonic-styled characters" and humans, as both exist within this universe. Auditions would not need to be inked or colored, but if you were wanting roles in the project for such, you are welcome to submit those, as well!
Auditions would be posted within our public Discord server under the #art-auditions-only channel, where our team of editors can review and provide input on the audition, any sort of constructive critique if needed, etc.
Below are examples of progress on the next batch of issues, to show varying artist styles, levels of progress, etc:

All issues that we create are dubbed and posted on both Newgrounds and YouTube, so if you want to be involved in a long-running comic (you're not required to be a permanent participant, but we welcome new faces who stick around the madhouse) to be hosted here, join up today and show us what you've got! We're always taking auditions, hope to see you there!
My team and I are working on a pretty beefy OVA within our Legacy comic universe as a one-off 'Christmas special' (I'm using the term Christmas lightly as the context within the animation is different than the real-world counterpart), and we were hoping to recruit a few more animators to the team in order to meet deadline goals.
A synopsis of the OVA is that Sonic and a few friends and relatives decide to spend the holidays back at his home on Christmas Island, while other parties at play are vying for their own aspirations.
The tone of the animation is more lighthearted compared to the comics themselves, although there will still be conflict within the story. The animation has a more minimalistic approach to character design and shading to ease workload of animators, with only foregrounds rendered with the same quality as characters, while backgrounds are static pieces with a more painted feel to help the characters pop. The animation is roughly slated for 15-25 minutes in length, with a total of 18 scenes, two of which are action scenes, one is more 'static' and storyboarded similar to a scene you'd see in 'Sonic and the Black Knight'. Everything else is more basic animation such as walking and talking, with emphasis on the latter.
One of the higher-action scenes is already claimed, but we have one left available, while most of the other scenes are available to claim. The OVA is fully voiced and ready to go, and all scenes are storyboarded and waiting to be animated. Musicians are on standby to write out a fully originated score to go along with the timing of the animation (we try to avoid using any existing material in all of our comic dubs or creations). The goal is to have the OVA completed and ready to release for Christmas of 2022 (originally it was 2021 but due to pandemic and shift of focus, not a lot of progress was made on the project).
Some examples of existing storyboards and animation progress are linked below:

Another reason that I am trying to meet the goal is that our Eggman voice-actor for all of Legacy's currently released and planned material, Mushrunner, recently lost his life. This was the biggest project that we had that he was able to be a part of, and I want to ensure that we can release it on our planned goal, and have it be the best it can be, in order to give him a proper send-off from our team.
On the technical side of things, the animation is set at 24fps, with most scenes being animated on 2s, with the exception of some events in the action scenes where 1s translate better. For character dialog, we're just going to stick with the traditional "anime" lip flaps of closed/semi-open/open for easier style-syncing between artists. The project resolution will be 1920x1080 for the final video cut.
If you're interested in being a part of this animation project, we have our Discord server where all project communication and organization takes place. All you need to do is join the server and submit any previous animation work that you've worked on so that we can have a peek at your animation style and experience (preferably would also submit any sort of Sonic works, so we can see how you handle the style of characters. Bonus points if you whip up something mimicking the art style we're aiming for!). You'd submit your audition in the #animation-auditions channel within the server, where I and other editors can review and reach out! If accepted, we'll get you synced with our Google Drive where the script and all storyboards and assets exist!
The final project will be hosted on both Newgrounds and YouTube, the former for networking out with more content creators, and the latter for sheer reach (it will be uploaded on the Sonic Paradox channel, where we currently have about 686k subscribers). This is a voluntary project, we do not have the type of funds or backing to really be able to pay anyone for participating on this project, so I wanted to set that expectation early on. Everything we do on Legacy is born out of passion for the series, and nobody expects financial compensation for their contributions (although I would love for us to get that sort of backing).
Now that I've rambled and probably didn't keep a good order of paragraph topic cohesion, just wanted to thank anybody for taking the time to review the post, and I hope we can see some of you join the project and make this video a reality!
Didn't expect to hit this number so soon after recently becoming active again! Thanks for sticking around or following, guys, and for supporting the content my team and I work on!
